The Southeastern Region hosted the first webinar in our climate action series, which is now available on demand. This course provides landscape architects the guidance and tools to become active in climate action The course goes over ASLA’s Climate Action Plan, and guide through understanding what climate threats are being faced in Florida and how landscape architects through their knowledge can become leaders in climate adaptation and mitigation. Case studies of climate adaptation, and regulatory processes, will be presented as examples.

Aida Curtis, FASLA, Principal

Aida Curtis has over 40 of experience as a landscape architect, arborist, certified landscape inspector and leader of her firm Curtis + Rogers Design Studio. Leading the go-to Hispanic/Woman-owned landscape architecture firm in South Florida has allowed her to create sustainable spaces that are economically and socially inclusive. Aida’s portfolio includes award-winning transportation, recreational, institutional and civic projects. Her creative, practical, and cost-effective solutions are coupled with a specialization in consensus-building, addressing challenges through effective communication.

A trailblazer in addressing climate change’s environmental impact through landscape architecture, Aida Curtis co-chairs the National ASLA Biodiversity and Climate Action Committee. She provides input to ASLA leadership on strategies for communicating the role of landscape architecture in increasing biodiversity, ecological restoration, and mitigating/adapting to climate change.

Recently she has led the firm’s Jose Marti Park Adaptive Redesign – which is the first project in Florida to be WEDG verified and the second one outside New York.  Ms. Curtis was a member of Technical Advisory Committee for WEDG V3.0.  As a firm advocate of WEDG, she was influential in the adoption by City of Miami of WEDG verification for urban coastal projects.

Aida’s leadership also extends to the board of the Landscape Architecture Foundation, where she supports the advancement of landscape architects as climate change leaders through education and inspiration for future generations.
