This presentation provides essential knowledge about Florida soils to design thriving, sustainable landscapes. Attendees will learn how to identify and work with Florida’s unique soils, interpret soil test results, receive science-based fertilizer recommendations, and implement best management practices (BMPs). We’ll also connect soil conditions to plant selection strategies that ensure long-term performance, aesthetics, and sustainability.

Meet the Speakers:
Kara Krueger
UF/IFAS Palm Beach County Extension

Kara Krueger is a University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences Environmental Horticulture Extension Agent for Palm Beach County. She joined UF/IFAS Extension in November 2022, and in her role, Kara works with residents, Homeowner Associations, and landscape professionals to provide education and programs on Florida-Friendly Landscaping™, landscape best management practices (BMPs), and general horticultural issues. The goal is to connect landscape professionals, homeowners, and other residents to the importance of environmental stewardship through our landscapes. She has extensive knowledge of plant selection, landscape installation, and maintenance. Kara earned her Master’s in Environmental Horticulture from the University of Florida and then worked for a private landscape company specializing in high-end estates for nearly nine years.

Dr. Kimberly Moore
UF/IFAS Ft. Lauderdale Research and Education Center
Kimberly Moore is a professor of Environmental Horticulture at the University of Florida, IFAS, Fort Lauderdale Research and Education center where she also serves as the associate center director. In addition to mentoring undergraduate and graduate students, she teaches Elementary Organic and Biological Chemistry as well as Nutritional Management and Getting Published in Horticulture. Along with her students, she researches nutritional management strategies for ornamental crops to reduce water use as well as fertilizer run-off and improve water and fertilizer management. Dr. Moore received her PhD and MS in horticulture from Iowa State University and her BS in Environmental Science and Botany with a minor in chemistry from Eastern Illinois University. She joined the faculty at the University of Florida in 1995.
